Latest on Bryce Brown rumors

THURSDAY UPDATE TO ORIGINAL POST: GoPowercat.com’s Rob Cassidy has reported that Brown has left the K-State football team, although the decision may not be permanent. The team has left the door open for his return and is trying to convince him to rejoin the team. A full story can be found on GoPowercat.com.

ORIGINAL STORY: Kansas State running back Bryce Brown was sighted on the University of Tennessee campus Tuesday, with his girlfriend. The facts we know are as follows:

Bill Snyder was asked about Brown’s inability to stay on the field, and answered with: “Bryce is going through some difficult times right now. We’re going to try to help him all we can.”

Rumors are circulating that Brown has quit the team, and although there is no confirmation of that at this time, it remains a possibility. The GoPowercat team and myself are working to get more information from K-State.

GoPowercat’s Tim Fitzgerald told me there is a chance the team is trying to convince Brown to remain with the team right now, and until they know a final decision from him, there might not be any acknowledgement of the situation from the athletic department.

I tried to contact Tennessee’s student newspaper earlier today, but the school is in Fall Break right now, so there was no staff member available. Also, so few students being on the Tennessee campus this week could have led to Brown’s decision to travel there now.

Before transferring to K-State, Brown was on the Tennessee football team for a year. His brother, Arthur, is a starting linebacker for the Wildcats.

My take on all this:

It’s an unfortunate distraction for the team at this point. I hope all is okay with Brown and his life, though that’s probably not the case. Him leaving the Wildcats would be a big mistake as far as I’m concerned. Bill Snyder and the team are a family, and they will work with him however they need to.
